Can I request an exemption from scanning my MOBIB card?

Travelers with a subscription who cannot scan their MOBIB card on a De Lijn vehicle for personal reasons can request an exemption.

Conditions

You qualify if all the following conditions apply to you:

  • You cannot scan your MOBIB card due to very serious and weighty personal reasons.
  • You cannot consistently rely on a companion.
  • You cannot validate your subscription via digital boarding.

Valid travel

To travel validly, you must always carry your MOBIB card with you. During an inspection, it will be checked via your MOBIB card whether you have a valid subscription.

If you renew your subscription or buy a new subscription, you must scan it once to place the subscription on your MOBIB card. This can be done on a De Lijn vehicle or in a Lijnwinkel.

Application

Request the exemption via the Subscription service. The exemption takes effect 7 days after confirmation by De Lijn. You will receive a confirmation email about this.

  • The exemption is granted based on a declaration on honor, which is valid for 5 years. If your situation changes, we expect you to inform De Lijn.
  • In case of suspicion or detection of abuse or fraud, De Lijn reserves the right to: revoke the exemption; impose administrative fines, in accordance with the Decision of the Flemish Government of September 16, 2022, regarding travel conditions and their enforcement by De Lijn.
  • De Lijn reserves the right to unilaterally adjust the conditions related to this exemption if changed circumstances, legal requirements, or operational necessity require it.
