What should I do if my MOBIB card does not scan or is defective?

Activate digital boarding

Thanks to this feature, as a subscriber you can digitally register your boarding or transfer.

  1. Install the De Lijn app (iOS/Android) and create an account.
  2. Go to the Products tab and tap on Subscriptions.
  3. Link your MOBIB card to your account and activate digital boarding.
  4. Always turn on your Bluetooth.

When you board digitally, you travel validly without a MOBIB card. However, we do recommend that you also buy a new MOBIB card. If your battery is empty or you have a poor internet connection, digital boarding is not possible. If you then have your MOBIB card with you, you can scan it. 

Check if your card may be defective

Check the following items when your MOBIB card displays a cross on a red field. 

  1. Is your subscription loaded onto your MOBIB card? 
  2. Are you using the correct MOBIB card? 
    If you previously reported a card lost and later found it, you must use the new MOBIB card; the old one will no longer work. 
  3. Is your MOBIB card in a case with other cards or near your phone? 
    This can cause an error. It is best to take the card out of the case and scan your card without other cards or your phone nearby. 
  4. Are you traveling with a Student Bus Pass? 
    Then the subscription is only valid within a limited area. Check whether the stop where you boarded is within the validity area. 

Have you gone through these steps and your card still does not work? Then your MOBIB card may be defective.
