Am I entitled to a refund when I cancel my season ticket?

Yes, but only a partial refund or a day-by-day refund. Refunds are always made by bank transfer, and never in a Lijnwinkel store.

Partial refunds

If you’re not buying a new season ticket and you want your money back on your existing one, you can opt for a partial refund. This only applies if you purchased a Buzzy Pazz 12-24 or Omnipas 25-64 at full price and your season ticket was valid for 3 or 12 months.

A monthly season ticket is never eligible for a partial refund.

Depending on the number of months used, you will be refunded a percentage of the season ticket price. An administrative fee of 10 euros will also be charged.

Refunds for three-month season tickets

The amount of the refund depends on how much your season ticket cost. We calculate it as follows: 30% for the first 15 days + 15% for the remaining days of the first month + 15% for the first 15 days of the second month + 15% for the remaining days of the second month.

An administration fee is also deducted. In the third month no refund is given.

Day-by-day refund

You will be refunded day-by-day in the following situations, bearing in mind that there is an administrative fee of 10 euros:

  • Are you buying or receiving another season ticket from De Lijn? If so the returned season ticket will be refunded on a day-by-day basis. To work this out we look at the start date of your new season ticket.
  • Are you buying a new combined season ticket (De Lijn - NMBS-SNCB)? If so, include copies of two items with the application for a refund: one of your MOBIB card and one of the ‘proof of uploaded contract’. You receive the latter at the time of your purchase. It states how long your season ticket was valid for.
  • If the season ticket-holder dies, a day-by-day refund will be issued based on the date of death. Please include a copy of the death certificate and certificate of succession or a power of attorney with the application.

Apply for a refund

Tip

For all types of refund, an administrative fee of 10 euros is always charged. The 5 euro administrative fee for your MOBIB card is not refunded either. The card will remain valid until the date shown on it, though, and you’ll be able to put another season ticket on it from De Lijn or another Belgian transport operator at a later date.

No refund

You are not entitled to a refund in the following situations:

  • if the amount to which you are entitled is less than the 10 euro administrative fee;
  • if your season ticket is subject to judicial seizure or confiscation;
  • on a season ticket at a discount rate, for example an Omnipas 65+ season ticket or a Buzzy Pazz -12 season ticket. (Except in the event of the holder’s death, in which case a day-by-day refund will be made. You can also get a refund on VG and VT subscriptions if you have received a new subscription from De Lijn (e.g. PMH subscription) ).
