How do I file an objection against a fine?

Fill in the online complaint form or send a (registered) letter or email to the Administrative Fines Service:

De Lijn – Administrative Fines Service
PO Box 10000
2800 Mechelen

How does this process work?

You send your letter/email or completed online form to us; this must be done within 30 days AFTER the proposed decision. (Correspondence/emails or online forms submitted BEFORE the sending of the proposed decision will not be processed). State why you believe the decision is unjustified. You may also request to be heard. You are allowed to be assisted by a legal advisor.

Your payment will be suspended until the Fines Service decides in your favor or against you. Within 3 months, they will inform you of the final decision. This always happens by letter. Depending on the justification, we may extend this period by 3 months again.

Is the fine still confirmed? Then pay it within 30 days using the payment details stated in the letter.

If you do not do this, your file will be handed over to Modero bailiffs, and you will not receive any additional notice. All extra costs will then be at your expense. The written procedure with De Lijn then stops.

If you send a letter, email, or completed online form to us after the deadlines stated in both the “Proposed Decision” and the “Final Decision”, these will no longer be answered by the Administrative Fines Service. If your file has meanwhile been transferred to the bailiff, you will always receive a reply from the bailiff's office and no longer from the Administrative Fines Service.
