How do I appeal against a fine?

Fill in the online complaint form or send a (registered) letter or email to the Administrative Fines department:

How does this process work?

You send us your letter/email or completed online form, this must be done within 30 days AFTER the proposal for a decision. (Correspondence/mails or online form submitted BEFORE sending the decision proposal will not be considered). State why you think it was issued incorrectly. You can also request a hearing, at which you can be accompanied by a lawyer.

Your payment will be suspended until our Fines department decides in your favour or not. We will let you know the final decision within three months. This will be done by letter. Depending on the reasons given, we may extend the period by another three months.

If you do have a fine to pay, you must do so within 30 days using the bank transfer form included with the letter.

If you fail to do so, your file will be passed on to the Modero judicial officer without further notice.. All additional costs are then payable by you. This marks the end of the written procedure at De Lijn.

If you send us a letter, e-mail or online form after the deadlines set in both the ‘Proposed decision’ and the ‘Final decision’, these will no longer be answered by our Administration Fines Service. If your file has meanwhile been transferred to the bailiff, you will always receive an answer from the bailiff's office and no longer from the Administration Fines Department.
