De Lijn inspection staff are allowed to check all tickets and discount cards. In doing so, they may also check your identity, even though they do not have the same powers as the police. For example, during a passenger inspection: you must show or hand over your ID. Inspectors are allowed to examine, copy, or retain this document.

This is determined in *Art. 44quater of the Decree of 31 July 1990 concerning the externally autonomous agency under public law Vlaamse Vervoermaatschappij - De Lijn, and in *Art. 174 of the law of 2 October 2017 governing private and special security.
